February in Wisconsin means slim pickins for pretty bouquets unless you head to your nearest florist. However, it doesn't mean that you can't find beautiful substitutes for those lush summer blooms. A walk through my garden today revealed dried flower heads that have a beauty all their own and make handsome subjects for a winter watercolor . . . with no worries about wilting!

Shown here are left to right, hydrangea, sedum, snapdragon, cone flower, miniature bamboo, and another cone flower and hydrangea.
